What the newsrooms chased today

The most recent day in the sample — 6680 items from 27 outlets, 456 of the day’s stories carried by more than one. Below: what got covered, what got ignored, and what a human has actually verified. That last number is currently 1, and it is printed honestly. Earlier days are one click away.

No verified divergence today · the day’s most-covered story

No divergence has been verified, so the lead is a coverage count instead: “Watch: Mallikarjun Kharge Vs Kiren Rijiju Fiery Face-Off In Lok Sabha | Parliament | India Today” drew more separate items on this day than any other story in the sample. Two of them are shown. That is what was published, not a claim about why. See the order of publication ↗

Find a story

Every story page on this site, searched by headline and by the outlets that carried it. Matching is on the text as published, so a Devanagari or Tamil headline is searched in its own script — nothing is transliterated. Findings are not searchable: only a story has a page.

Browse by day

14 calendar days, 25 Jul – 07 Aug 2026. Days with nothing captured are greyed out and inert. The archive holds 15,894 items across 23 days; earlier ones are reachable with the previous-day link below.

The taper toward older dates measures the crawler, not the news. Ingestion began on 07 August 2026; every earlier day was reconstructed from what was left in each feed rather than watched. The first item captured from 20 June arrived 48.1 days after publication, against 0 minutes on 07 August — that gap, not the news, is what the strip is shaped by. Each RSS feed returns only its latest 15–200 items, so a day’s total is a record of what the crawler saw rather than a measurement of the day: a smaller count is a collection artefact, not a finding. It does not mean less news happened. The bands above are order-of-magnitude only, and no day’s total should be read as a measurement of that day or compared against another’s.

Ranked by how many separate items outlets published on this one calendar day (UTC) — the one reach-style measure that is comparable across outlets today. Bars show the mainstream and alternative share of the outlets covering each story.

Blind spots

Of the 456 stories with coverage from more than one outlet on 07 August 2026:

419 Covered only by mainstream

Led by Atiq Ahmad Son Aban Dies In Car Accident: अतीक अहमद के बेटे अबान अहमद की मौत | Jhansi News (92 items), Jharkhand Students Continue Protest, Demand CBI Probe Into JPSC-JSSC Row | Hemant Soren | News18 (55 items), Big Breakin on Atiq Ahmed Son LIVE: पलट गई अतीक के बेटे Abaan Ahmed की गाड़ी | Jhansi Accident | UP (49 items)

2 Covered only by alternative

Led by Filmmaker Shruti Ganguly’s Message To Anti-Trump, Pro-Modi Diaspora Indians | VIGILANT | The Quint (2 items), H-1B, L-1 visa extensions may get costlier under Trump plan: What it means for Indians (2 items)

Read this as a description of a 27-outlet sample on one day, not a verdict on Indian media. The mainstream set is larger and posts far more often, so it will dominate any raw count. The number worth watching over weeks is the second one — and on days captured before ingestion started, both numbers are held down by how little of that day was collected at all.

Share of the 6680 items in this sample on 07 August 2026, by the owner group behind each outlet. This is not market share, not audience share and not revenue: it is how many items a hand-picked registry of 27 outlets put into the crawler on one day, and an owner with more feeds in that registry occupies more of the bar for that reason alone.

Language and reach

Language: Hindi 3923, English 2757 · Reach: Mainstream 6563, Alternative 117.

Language Hindi 3923 (59%) English 2757 (41%) Reach Mainstream 6563 (98%)
Items captured on 07 August 2026, split by the outlet’s registered language and by whether it is mainstream or alternative. Language is the outlet’s, not the item’s — per-item detection is unreliable on short headlines. Of the 6680 items, no outlet in the registry is scoped regional yet, so the regional row is absent rather than empty. These are item counts and nothing more: an outlet that posts twelve times an hour fills more of a bar than one that posts twice a day, and neither bar says anything about how many people watched.

What we can and cannot say about attention

“What captured the nation’s attention” is two different questions, and only one of them is answerable from this data today.

Measurable now Agenda

What newsrooms chose to chase. Coverage counts inside one calendar day are directly comparable across outlets — everything above is built on this.

Not measurable yet Attention

What people actually watched. View counts exist, but cannot yet be compared honestly across outlets. See below.

130h ago 97h 65h 32h now CNN-News18 1000 items over 129.8 hours Republic Bharat 1000 items over 101.9 hours NDTV India 1000 items over 30.1 hours News18 India 1000 items over 25.5 hours
Each of these feeds returned exactly 1000 items, so every bar holds the same number of items — but they cover wildly different amounts of time. Adding up views across these bars compares weeks of one channel with hours of another.

Why the view counts are withheld. The feeds return a fixed 1000 items per outlet, but outlets publish at wildly different rates — so that window covers 25.5 hours of News18 India and 130 hours of CNN-News18, a 5× difference. Ranked naively by total views, the slow-posting outlet wins on accumulated time rather than on audience.

Normalising to views-per-hour reverses the ranking, and is also wrong — a three-hour-old video is still climbing while a seven-week-old one has saturated. Both directions are artefacts of posting cadence, so no audience ranking is published here.

The fix is a scheduler, not a scraper: poll repeatedly and measure the change in each video’s view count over time. That yields real velocity curves and needs no paid API. Until it runs, this section stays empty on purpose.

Verified callouts

0 published Nothing has been verified yet.

The pipeline surfaced 879 candidates in this run. A human has confirmed none of them, so this feed is empty — and it stays empty until someone confirms a finding and writes it up in their own words.

An empty feed is the honest state. Filling it with machine output would defeat the point of having it.
